Implementation of employment terms and conditions
The employment conditions for KLM ground staff are laid down in the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA). Depending on the current circumstances, the CLA has either a short-term duration (a few months) or a long-term duration (several years). The more general employment conditions rarely change over the years or only to a limited extent. These provisions can mainly be found in the first chapters of the CLA.
Employee organizations, such as VKP, negotiate on behalf of their members both during and sometimes after the term of a CLA to discuss new requests regarding employment conditions. Naturally, every organization tries to secure the most favorable package of employment conditions possible for its members.
You can read more about this under collective representation of interests.
Collective Labor Agreement (CLA) texts often have a legal basis and can therefore be difficult to read. We understand that you may have questions or want clarification about a specific CLA article. You might also want to know what a particular article means for your personal situation.
For example, one current topic is whether the DI-budget is paid out or used for the employment conditions contribution. Around the turn of the year, we receive many questions about this. Questions about how salary increases are determined when promoted to a higher MSG scale also come up frequently.
Changes in the CLA and how KLM applies these changes in practice often raise many questions.
In addition to the Collective Labor Agreement (CLA), KLM has policies and arrangements that are not included in the CLA. Examples include the IPB scheme and the employment-related car lease scheme. And last but not least, there are laws that apply to you as an employee and/or to KLM as an employer, such as the Dutch Gatekeeper Improvement Act (which regulates employer and employee responsibilities during sick leave and reintegration). And the legal provisions regarding care leave and parental leave.
