Thanks to VKP, I was able to end my career at KLM on a positive note

In the fall of 2021, I reached out to VKP. About a year and a half earlier, I had started working in a new job, full of enthusiasm and fresh ideas. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that the work environment was neither pleasant nor safe for me. I felt excluded and unappreciated. This led to stress and sleepless nights, and a year later, in April 2021, I reported myself sick.

After a few months, I began my reintegration at a temporary workplace, and quite quickly, I was working full hours again. At that time, I was also declared fully recovered. Although I was allowed to stay at my temporary workplace for another six months, my manager presented me with three options:

  1. Return to my original position;

  2. Look for a new role within KLM;

  3. Use a settlement agreement to leave KLM.

I had to decide on the last option within two weeks.

That was when I contacted VKP. They advised me to schedule an appointment with the company doctor. I was still undergoing treatment and not yet fit to return to my original role. Therefore, the declaration of full recovery was inaccurate. The company doctor determined that I was situation-dependently unfit for work and recommended continuing the reintegration process by returning to work in a different environment than the one where my original illness occurred. Returning to my original role carried a high risk of relapse.

Since returning to my original position was no longer an option, the second choice was to look for a new role within KLM. Together with VKP, I discussed my motivations and explored positions within KLM where I could apply my strengths. Based on the company doctor’s advice, we expected that I would have priority as a reintegration candidate for any vacancies. I enjoyed my temporary workplace, but there were no available positions there.
